Re: Missing hiker in Mazatzals - gpsjoe (Joe Domin)

Spent the day searching. For those wondering about the condition of the road to Peeley TH, it is excellent. I use the MSR Dragonfly, which is there multi-fuel model. It is one heck of a stove and has great stability, of course they are built for expedition use and are able to put up with extreme weather conditions and wind. Also field serviceable. THe thing sounds like a jet airplane when cranked full bor...

I remember you telling me that when we did our Woods Canyon hike and thought holy cow. I agree with Nighthiker that second is huge in a jeep.

I want to get in there this winter and do the Peter Trail to Charlebois like last time, but return via Hoolie Bacon, for a great loop.

I can safely assume that everyone who has contributed to this thread has been caught "out of place" at one time, or another. Probably multitudes of times. I have. You deal with it the best you can at the time. Good or Bad. It will always be a learning experience. Amen to that. Great post HikerInGil...

If you fail to listen to the desert/mountain/canyon it will be at your own peril.Like it is capable of creating a set of circumstances that are varied and changing. Does that make any sense? It makes perfect sense to me, as I can communicate directly with the Supes. I know a lot of people think I'm...

Maryphyl I think you could be right. It would be highly unlikely that all people in the group would have bacteria lingering in their hydration packs that would cause these symptons. I find it quite perplexing that the entire group would suffer the same symptoms, usually what would bother some would ...

Off Trail is my favorite and most enjoyable way to go, so I couldn't agree with you more, but if everyone went off trail their would be trails everywhere going no where. Before venturing off trail know how to navigate and always have your maps. They rescued 13 hikers in the Supes this weekend and mo...

I have nothing against it, although I would never do it . I agree with George, I could just imagine cat claw hooking you below the belt line, or cholla. Where I hike you couldn't get away with hiking nekked. You and your wife must avoid all bushwhacking

Matt do you use a thumb compass for your orienteering and hiking? What type of compass you want people to have for your class, a map compass(card compass), a thumb compass, lensatic compass or just a regular old compass. Your life will be miserable if everyone comes with a different type of compass....
