I couldn't tell it was that bad from the road and the parking area was blocked off with floods.

Re: 1-2 Mile Hike for kids in Greer?

You have probably already gone on your trip to Greer - but in case you are still planning - the Butler Canyon Nature Trail is the perfect length. When we were in Greer (August 20th) the parking area was blocked but I think you walk a little ways to get to the trail. It was flooding more than fire th...

Also, the trails in Sitgreaves area (over by Pinetop and Show Low) are open. Lakeside Ranger District. That's good to know about Sipe. Was the house damaged there? I l...

Re: hiking plans and goals for 2011

My goals are really wimpy compared to most - but I'm getting them out there anyway. Helps to write things down to accomplish them, right? I have 10 weeks left of pregnancy with baby #2 :y: (Lord willing that he doesn't come sooner) -- so after that in March would like to get out somewhere as a famil...

Re: Family Friendly Hike

May'retta?? Who knew! I remember when Town Centre mall was the s*** and the newest mall in town! Why not throw in Lake Winfield Scott as a end of the day - pop open the hatch - have a beer - walk around the lake. Or take a dip in the lake. It's not too far from Vogel. Those twisty roads take longer ...

Re: Family Friendly Hike

I love Cloudland! That's one of the hikes listed on this site. If you look at the top of the main hikearizona page there are states listed across the top. To get to GA click on "more" then look for USA Georgia. The four that I have written up: http://www.hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=130...

Re: Family Friendly Hike

If you have time in Flagstaff - the Kachina Trail is flat and very scenic. It's not a loop - you would go in a half a mile or so and then back out the same way. July weather is nice for hiking at that elevation. In Sedona - I love Doe Mountain - short steep part at the start then you walk out on a m...

Re: What a nice afternoon!!

It was a gorgeous day! :D I took a work friend to Gateway trailhead and we walked around the surrounding area. Brought a little picnic and went back home. There were lots and lots of people there today -- plenty of kids too - out of school for President's day.

McDowell Sonoran Challenge Feb 27, 2010

Saw this and figured others might be interested in this bike/hike/run local challenge. The hike part of the challenge is 9 miles around Brown's Ranch. I've done 4 miles of it, and the part I did was really flat and sandy with interesting ranching ruins to see. The trails for the challenge are all wi...

Re: Three new trails in the McDowells

We went to the Gateway access center and trailhead grand opening today. The 200 car parking lot was full at 7:45 am! I'm going to edit the hike descriptions for Gateway Loop, Windgate-Bell loop, and Bell Pass to reflect the new trailhead location and mileage changes. I had listed the tiny 12-15 car ...

Re: New operators of the North Rim Lodge and Restaurant

I made same-day reservations, but I specifically asked if you could call ahead to make reservations - and they said yes. I double-checked and called from home this morning and asked to make dinner reservations for next week (just to test the system) - and they were ready to take the reservation. I d...
