Re: Picture Canyon Update

:welcome: Thanks for the info. Perhaps our on-site description could use a little update to include this (Joe et al): http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=1997

Re: 6 Days in the Supes, questions about a LONG loop

I can report that Reavis Creek has a ton of water in it as of 2/24, as well as water flowing in numerous drainages between Reavis Falls and the Reavis Trailhead. The Supes have received multiple storms this month and water should not be a concern at all given your itinerary.

Re: KEEN shoes/boots

Personally, both pairs of Merrells that I have had seemed to break down faster than I would expect from a $100-120 pair of shoes. I have had two pairs of Ahnu low tops that I absolutely swear by, and have a pair of Vasque high tops that have been very durable, except for when I melted the soles tryi...

Re: What do you do for a living??

@azbackpackr My wife just got a promotion at her job in Phoenix, so we will be working separate cities for the time being. I'll be crashing with my parents 4-5 days a week in Flag, and then will probably go to the valley on my days off. Of course, when its 100+ degrees in Phoenix, my wife will prob...

Re: What do you do for a living??

Today I accepted a job with Canyon Dave Tours, a private company that does educational rim tours at the Grand Canyon. I will be a guide, picking up tourists in Flagstaff, Williams, and Tusayan, then hitting all the South Rim viewpoints while giving talks about Canyon geology. I'm pretty excited!

Re: What do you do for a living??

I currently do residential construction/restoration (hanging drywall and painting mostly). Before that I was a pizza cook, and before that a pizza delivery driver. However, I hope soon to land a tour guide or park ranger job as I am currently not using my bachelors of science degree in geography.

Re: 2013: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun

Ice scraper came out to deal with the light skim on my truck windows this morning. Frozen condensation, and the wipers wouldn't move it! I've had to deal with a frosted windshield about a half dozen times in the last month or so. It's avoidable if I can snag the parking spot under the tree. This mo...

Reavis Falls vs Lower LaBarge vs Pinon

I'm planning a Supes backpack for the 23-24 of this month with some other dudes. It may be too early to tell, but I'm wondering if we'll get enough precip with this weekend's storm for Reavis Falls to be flowing well in a couple weeks? If not, I'm thinking a trip into Lower LaBarge via Canyon Lake m...

Re: 2013 Wildflowers

I saw brittlebush blooming (rather crappily) in the parking lot for East Wing Mountain today...hardly seems encouraging.

Sierra Nevada or Colorado Guidebook Recommendations

Looking ahead to summer / early fall, I'm looking to plan a trip to either the Sierra Nevada or Colorado (with any luck, both), with the intention of doing a multi-day backpacking trip bookended with a couple days of car-camping and shorter dayhikes. I was wondering if anyone has any favorite guideb...

Anybody done any part of Marsh Valley via First Water within the last week? Just wanted to try to get some final info on where the water is before I go this weekend. Current fees at First Water TH

Is there currently a fee to park at First Water Trailhead? I will be parked there overnight for a backpacking trip. I couldn't find a definite answer anywhere so I'm assuming there isn't one but wanted to double check here.

Lightweight Homemade First Aid Kit Ideas

Instead of buying one of the pre-made ones, I want to make my own custom homemade first aid kit. It should be lightweight and highly packable, yet cover all the bases of essential wilderness first aid. Anyone have any ideas on how to put one together, small lightweight components to use, what to use...
