I just got the August 2012 issue of Arizona Highways. There is a picture of Walnut Canyon on the AZ Trail, see page 23 please. Where is this and how do I get there??? I see several hikes on our Hike AZ site that may be in that general area, but there are not full trail descriptions listed at this ti...
Hello all! My husband and I and another couple we travel with go to Sedona every August and stay at a cabin about half way up 89a in Oak Creek Canyon. We have explored a good many Sedona trails that are do-able in the summer, so we thought we would expand into Flagstaff this coming summer. Fitness l...
Wow this is great stuff, thanks all for your help! I am all about saving $$$$$$$$$$$ and I will check out the topo map overlays here on HikeAZ. I am really not that tech savvy and may have further questions on downloading gps coordinates and tracks, etc, so you may see me on another forum asking mor...
I did a search of Topo topics and don't see a review for very recent software. I have a Mac 10.6.8 and Garmin Summit HC Etrex. What is the most recent version of the Nat Geo Topo! AZ software, and is it compatible with my Mac? I know it may say that it is, but you know how that goes...is it user fri...
@cactusrose63 Also, you might consider following the thread updates for this recent GC-N.Rim request: http://www.hikearizona.com/dex2/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=5395 from a new Marietta, GA, member who is also looking for hiking trail info on the top of the N. Rim. (he is looking to do a rim top back...
I am looking to spend a few days at the North Rim next August and want to plan ahead. What are your favorite day hikes at the North Rim? I have already gone down into the canyon and not looking to do that this next trip. What are the best day hikes on or near the rim? I saw the 157 hikes listed for ...
Hmmm...about eight I believe, plus one Boy Scout group that had about six adults and twenty or so boys. They were doing a 20 mile hike that day for a hiking badge. We saw some of them near the meadow on the way back down the East Trail, they looked pretty tuckered out and they still had about 6-7 mi...
I was just there this past Saturday with my husband and another couple. We did hike to the cairn you mentioned and you can't deny that the 360 degree view is pretty impressive, even if the weather/visibility is not perfectly clear. Anyway, there was a ceremony at the slightly higher "Sacred Sum...
Thanks, Joe. I remember seeing this page a few months ago when I joined, but I guess I didn't notice you can search by month, forest, region etc. Fantastic resource! I am going to try my hand at posting a triplog and photos after our hike next week. Thanks again for your all the effort you put into ...
Those are private contractors that run the fee demonstration programs??? I always thought when I pay my money to go to Sabino and Mount Lemmon, this money was going to the National Forest Service for them to use for upkeep.
Okay, so I am sure I am going to say something completely unpopular...I guess I never minded paying the entrance/amenity fees because I figured that's how we help keep trails groomed and help offset the cost of water use, etc at these parks. For me, twenty dollars a year seems like a steal for all t...
Speaking as one who has absolutely NO sense of direction...I love cairns. It's just something genetic that I'm missing I guess. So cairn vandals out there, don't hate me because I'm stupid...love me because I want to be out there enjoying this beautiful earth with you. I think GPS was invented speci...

Bad, very bad and scary too. Made it to the first platform which was amazing in itself, could not go on past that, ...
