Re: What Kind of Spider is This?

At first glance, I thought the body structure looked like black widow. But, looking closer, the legs have strips on them and the color is not quite black like a black widow would be. So, like tewa commented, I would have to agree it might be a brown widow. It would be nice to see if it has the hour ...

Re: The Borderlands

The only time I had my car broken into and stolen was in a busy metropolitan area in Omaha, NE. And, it is not uncommon for vehicles to be broken into in order to steal valuables in busy parking lots and even on residential streets in small town Nebraska. With that said, how common is it to hear abo...

Re: 2012: Rain, Wind, and Sun

Maybe the universe wanted to help the plants and gardens grow by bringing life giving rains to the dry and dusty desert. Im thankful for the rain.

Re: Fossil Springs Closure Announced 06/20/12

Oh wow! Does that include the Fossil Springs Trail, #18? It looks like it does. I was just there yesterday and didn't see any word or notice posted at all, and it looks like it starts today! Sheesh! Talk about good timing. They need the rain there, for sure. It is really dry. They do have notices po...

Re: I give up.

Sounds like we are in the same situation, where we had a vision of what we wanted for our future, but are having some setbacks in materializing that vision. Not only has the harsh, dry wind dried up the life forms you have planted in the sanctuary of your "home", it sounds like it is affec...

Re: AZ Humane Society

So sad to hear about the loss of your Prue baby. But, very heart warming and touching to see you continue to share the love you had for her with two new baby kittens! There is a way to make a personal album in your profile, and I think it might be for photos like those of your new kittens. You might...

Re: Rattlesnake photography

They sense predators and prey by infrared light, so something as large as a person throws off a significant heat signature, so you might have to be pretty creative so it wouldn't know. Even if you were to set up a blind, where would you set it up hoping a rattler would slither on by? It you tried t...

Re: Rattlesnake photography

That said, I really wish I had more than 200mm to work with when photographing snakes. I've considered the 100-400mm lens for that exact reason in the past, but the cost is hard to get past =( A telephoto lens would be nice to have in this case! Would love one for bird watching too....someday, mayb...

Rattlesnake photography

I am interested in taking photos of rattlesnakes someday. I was wondering what would be a safe distance? Has anyone ever been bit while photographing a rattlesnake? Would using some kind of shield or blind to photograph through make it less likely the rattlesnake would know I was there? I should pro...
