Re: largest & tallest saguaros

I think I've seen the Mammoth Saguaro. If it's where I think it is, it's easily accessible. I don't know if it's BLM or State trust land, but I'll find out next time I'm out that way.

Re: Hazoween

I have a friend who visits me pretty regularly - he was the chief of the Aravaipa Apaches when his family died in the Camp Grant Massacre, Chief Eskiminzin. I didn't believe in 'spirits' until I read a historical novel about the massacre. Then he showed up, and he's been a pretty frequent visitor ev...

Re: Passage 16 Gila River Canyons water

No problem, Espi! Just FYI for anyone - not only is Ray required to abide by these rules, all mines are to my understanding. It is what is referred to as a 'no discharge' policy. Any water that comes in is not allowed to leave the property. Mineral Creek had to be diverted around, and as a result th...

Re: Passage 16 Gila River Canyons water

Awesome! thank you so much for the information. I figured it was from mine run off. If I end up with some nervous tick when I return, I will be sure to let everyone know. Hey Espi, not to worry. By ADEQ regulations, we are absolutely FORBIDDEN to allow ANY water to run off of mine property. If that...

Re: Burned out!

this may be 100% irrelevant, but my hiking enjoyment skyrocketed when i put down my camera. i shelved the camera and my hiking world opened up I can relate to this too! I don't like video cameras at all. I'll take a snapshot, but I won't video, because I feel like I miss too much. On the other hand...

Re: Burned out!

I can so relate to the burned out thing! One of the reasons I found this website is because I got so totally burned out on the structured fitness regime I was trying to keep up with. I packed a bunch of weight back before I got off my carcass, and it was because I love to hike. I decided "do th...

Re: Aravaipa Emergency System

Also - there is an independent emergency service that is working to get a fire station installed near the college on Aravaipa Road. They have laid down the blacktop to the area they plan for the station. They have been having local meetings to get the community support to justify the expense of inst...

Re: Best Mexican Food Restaurant in Superior/Miami/Globe?

Trish, that's why I stick with La Casita. They've been there forever, the menu has changed very little, and the food is really good. You can also get a beer there, where the other places you usually can't. I like a beer with my Mexican food!

Re: Best Mexican Food Restaurant in Superior/Miami/Globe?

"Michoacan", in the same complex as the Circle K, in central Mammoth. Me & the wife stopped there last weekend. I had a carne asada chimichanga, and my wife had a torta. Both very yummy. Red salsa was very spicy, but I actually preferred the green "salsa". (Quotes be...

Re: Hiking Socks

Has anyone ever tried Ecosox? My MIL is trying to do me a favor, and she bought me two pair of these. They are supposed to be "eco friendly, made of bamboo and other materials, light weight, fitted arch and ankle so they won't slip, resists heating," etc. I'm wondering how they will do in...

Re: What's the best GPS?

When you first power it up the owner may be visible on the black screen. I entered my name and cell # into mine. The owner of yours may or may not have entered info. I powered it up again last night, and there's nothing but the basics visible. I don't believe the owner entered it at all. There's al...

Re: What's the best GPS?

My hubby recently found a Garmin eTrex Legend HCx. Any idea what we actually have? I have no idea how to operate it, and I think the little joystick type button doesn't work all the time. We have been able to look at it and figure some of the stuff out, but it appears it needs to go to the shop. Kin...
