Missing Hiker 10/10/09 - Peralta to Weavers Needle

Postby Crocodile Ryan » Oct 11 2009 1:29 pm

There is a missing hiker in the Supes

He was planning on being home yesterday (saturday 10/10/09) at 4PM

He was hiking from Peralta to Weavers Needle, SAR has found someone that believes they saw him yesterday about 230pm near the Needle

I wish I had some info on clothing but no one can remember what he was wearing, the person who believes he saw him thinks he was wearing a white T-shirt and had on a hip pack.

His name is Brian Chartier, white male, 43yrs, ~6'1" tall, ~190lbs, with light brown hair

Please contact Superstition SAR if you have any info, also please PM me, he's my uncle......

Was he car at the trailhead? I hiked Picketpost today and there was a SUV there when I got there. I didn't see any hikers in front of me though. The two hikers I did see later were wearing white but I'm sure that's true for lots of hikers out there. GOOD LUCK.

Does this mean that the Superstition Search and Rescue is now back in operation?

Does anybody know the status of this search? I am taking my three grandsons out on the Hackberry Loop tomorrow morning. They have already done the trek where this person is reported missing or we would do that along with Cave Trail.

I'm glad it was no worse than that. Was he lost or impaired by the dehydration?

While hiking Hackberry this morning there was another Maricopa County search going on for a party of four. They missed a turn yesterday and headed north down a wash and had very little water with them. Maricopa County helicopter and horse posse were out in force. They searched last night as well and the helicopter found them around 10:30 AM and made two trips hauling them out. When will people learn!

Yeah, but also I wonder if he has another health issue that's unknown? Your family might want to look at that. But I am very glad to hear he is found!

Had no clue, very interesting. I knew that hypothermia was most common above thirty degrees (usually if it's wet) but had no idea about the frostbite.

It's worth straightening him out especially given he lost a route that is usually easily followed...

I think it is important to remind people what to do if they get lost. First thing is STOP MOVING. Take some time, figure out where you are and contemplate your options thoughtfully and carefully. Many, Many people panic and quit thinking and keep moving. In the desert, that is the wrong thing to do.
