Scorpion sting treatment

Postby Wiz » Sep 20 2002 6:13 am

Here's a handy tidbit I just found out yesterday when my wife was stung by a scorpion. Make a paste of baking soda and water, and cover the sting with it. It evidently draws out the venom. She was stung on the finger, and it felt fine after about an hour with her finger in the paste. Today you'd never know it had happened.

Maybe everyone already knew this, but it was news to me.

GOOD TO KNOW! WE HAVE FOUND THAT BAKING SODA PASTE WORKS WELL ON SPIDER BITES AND BEE STINGS AS WELL.

Also supposed to be effective is household ammonia; soak a pad of of paper towel and place it on the sting. Works on bee stings as well.

Other remedies

If you keep Hooli around, you won't have any bugs, scorpions, spiders, weeds etc. He scares everything off.

On a more serious note - the Sawyer Extractor (snakebite tool) is supposed to draw venom out from just about any injection. Cody Lundin tells a story of how he used one on a client that had been stung by a scorpion. She was up and ready to go in fifteen minutes or so.

Back in Bama we used to put chewing tobacco on such things to "draw out the poison". I sure looked cool with a chewed up cigar on my wasp stung hand.

Hooli, I gotta ask: what did you do to rate all this abuse?

Have you ever met anyone who you just look at them and think - "You know, that person looks like they need to be abused." - That's Hoolie. Not to mention the fact that he can take it and give it right back without missing a beat.

The perfect recepie for abuse.

So pile on Wiz - don't fear the reaper!

I have no idea, Wiz, why anyone would want to abuse someone as sweet and lovable as I. :A1: I often cry myself to sleep wondering what I've done to be treated so badly.   Poor, Poor Pitiful me

Good to know, 3 weeks late. I was stung pretty severely on the finger a few weeks ago. Not a pleasant experience.

You sound like Gollum from J.R.R. Tolkein's LOTR series.

Come to think of it - Yoda, Gollum, Hoolie - there is definitely a family resemblance going on here...

Baking soda is great for a variety of things, including:

Brushing your teeth
Antacid
Foot powder
Underarm deoderant
Insect bites
War paint

I used to carry a small container of it when I traveled a bunch. I used to drop an Altoid or two in the container to make it smell or taste a tad better.

Hey, now you're talkin'! GTG could put that chomped up cigar in the baking soda and do a double whammy on any ol' sting!

Seriously, though, we appreciate the suggestion on "scenting" baking soda. Never thought of that one. We use it constantly while camping for various odor control tasks. The scenting tip is going to make our camping coolers that much cooler!

OK Wiz...time for the truth: Add Olesma and GTG together and you might come up with half a brain...key word being "might"! Then you add teva to the equation and you're back to substractions. Hell, 'bout that time paintninaz and Mike throw in their two cents worth and we're in minus territory! Now I realize they're tryin' to draw me into a war of wits with me, but son....you gotta realize they're....they're totally weaponless! :D

So, what you're saying, Hooli, is we're trying to draw you into a war of wits with YOURSELF???

At least, you'd have a shot at winning that one!!! :BH:

An altoid in a container,(prescription bottle) of toothpicks also is a neat trick.
