Places to stay "near" Sedona

Postby gsp416dre » Dec 05 2011 6:24 am

Well, I know this isn't the "usual" type question here, but I am sure just as it is here in GA, it is best to seek knowledge from the local experts when trying to find those less commercialized gems, so here I am.

We have been planning our AZ trip for a few months now. We have gotten a window for the timeframe and started our research. Here is where I am....... We were looking into TT camping when we go out. This doesn't look like the case any longer. Things just aren't coming together for that due to many, many things. So, just as we have done on our vacations past, we are going to search out some hidden gems, you know, those less commercialized, not-so-corporated Inns that make you feel like your presence is appreciated and matters! We could pick one of the "umpteen" (Yes, that is a real word here in GA! It converts to...ALOT!) hotels and "Inns" and "Resorts" all over the internet, but we would much rather find a lesser known, but personal type place. Those places are usually only found by chance, or by the actual knowledge of the local folk.

So here is the question that I have: Where can I find a nice not so commercial inn?

Important things for us are: family friendly, pet friendly (1 small dog), a place where staff is willing to go the extra step, clean, not terribly expensive.
We also don't care if its old or new, updated or "vintage", in town, close to town, away from town........

Oh, and places like this in other geo-locations are also appreciated and welcome! It doesn't have to be Sedona, but does need to be at higher elevations.

Thanks a many!

@gsp416dre
I personally know little about this Oak Creek Canyon (just north of Sedona center) Forest Houses Resort http://www.foresthousesresort.com/ , but it does come recommended by a local Arizona hiking friend of mine. It might work for you. Hopefully you will receive some other recommendations. Good luck finding the right place :)
