Mexico?

Postby Jim_H » Apr 16 2012 8:07 am

In 12 weeks I will have once again accrued some PTO and be able to get away for more than 3 days at a time. In light of this, in August, I was thinking of taking 7 days to going somewhere. I am considering Tucson, mostly to watch some impressive lightning storms, but I don't really know about that. I have also considered heading to Grand Teton NP, maybe do a peak there, and do some day hikes. Perhaps Stettner Couloir is still letting rocks fall? Not sure about that either.

The big idea I'm tossing around is getting a Pass Port and heading on down to Mexico. A resort? Near a resort? Baja area? I don't know, but it's an idea. Anyone have personal experience about traveling to the beach areas of Mexico in the NW corner of the country, or some ideas and or suggestions based on experience? Not really interested in the mountains, what with monsoon season, but a day trip could be interesting. Unless in the Baja area, with Jeffrey Pine and climate that is Sierra like.

Thought?
I think Monsoon season will begin around June 20, plus or minus 5 days, not by the calendar according to the NWS, but when dew points rise dramatically, and it begins to rain over the Sacramento Mountains. It will start about 10 days later in Arizona.

Hub and I drove to Rocky Point for 4 days back in September. Stayed on Sandy Beach. Perfect weather. The beach and water were perfect. At night we were intown. The fresh caught seafood was unbelievable, prices more than reasonable. Mexican beef as out of this world! Everyone pleasant and helpful. Felt very safe, absolutely no problems. As with any town/city don't wander into questionable areas. BTW, we got our passports (the book) in 3 weeks to the day sent. Lukeville crossing is quick, you will be stopped at 2 check points 15 miles before. Crossing back is where passports are shown. So if you like the beach and seafood, this is the closest and most reasonable place. This summer we are driving to San Felippe. Cant wait.
Life is not measured by the breaths that we take ... but by the moments that take our breath away.

Thanks. It's an idea, though I am not a seafood person. Mostly, I haven't been to the beach since 2004 in Florida. I thought it would be fun to go and have been saying I will go to some place warm for a trip every summer when I end up on some cold mountain. I like the idea of Mexico, but might be bored going alone and for a week. I guess if I were afraid of crime I could just fly to a south Texas beach town.
