Good evening,
My hiking partner and I will be in AZ from Nov. 12th to Nov. 20th to do a bit of hiking. Since this is a last minute trip, we are a bit overwhelmed by all the information and the zillion miles of trails in AZ. We want to go backpacking for a week and I would really appreciate if you could help us choose the best part (nice panoramic views) of the AZT that we could do in a week (we have hiked the NTP in 12 days to give you an idea of our speed). The only restriction I have is that I am afraid of heights. I know this will pose a personal challenge for me and I am willing to make some efforts but I will be unable to go rock climbing, as you can imagine.
We are not necessarily set on doing part of the AZT and if you have a better suggestion, we would appreciate it.
Finally, we have no means of transportation while in AZ. We will depend mostly on my partner's cousin willingness (she lives in Prescott) to drive us here and there, so we can not do many different trails all over the state.
Thank you very much for any info you can give us.

Check out the hikes on the Prescott National Forest, on the Hike Indexes and enjoy your visit.

In response to Nighthiker's reply:

You can spend a week in the Grand Canyon and not even scratch the surface; and this is about the perfect time of year to be IN the Canyon. (although the RIM can be chilly)
The most exhaustive source of data on Grand Canyon backpacking is likely http://www.kaibab.org .

Getting there: You could buy a "split" (one way one day and the return, say, 5 days later) ticket on the Grand Canyon Railway & that way your friend's cousin could merely run you up to Williams (about 45-60 minutes)and then pick you up there when you return. AND, you'd get to ride the train, too! http://www.grandcanyonrailway.com/home.cfm?dropSubNav=true
Otherwise, Bus Service between Grand Canyon National Park South Rim and Flagstaff, Arizona is offered by Nava-Hopi Tours, 800-892-8687, and by South Rim Travel, 520-638-2748.
Greyhound Bus Lines offers service from Flagstaff and Williams.

Getting around within the Park: Bus/shuttle transportation within GCNP is free, although is not provided to EVERY trailhead. Here is a link to the details > http://www.nps.gov/grca/grandcanyon/south-rim/transportation.htm

Whatever your choice, have fun and be safe...
