Hiking in Sedona

Postby 24265564 » Jun 27 2005 1:09 pm

My wife and I are flying into Pheonix on Thursday from Scotland and plan to travel to Sedona and stay there until Monday. We would like to hike Wilson Mountain but not sure about the trail at this time of year. We would also be happy to join anyone hiking in that area either on Friday or Sunday of this weekend. We also plan to hike around the Vantana Canyon area week beginning 11th July to around the 17th but not sure what kind of day hikes are in that area.

I'm planning to stop for a short hike in Sedona this Friday, on my way from Phoenix to the Canyon (if the wildfires don't shut the freeway down!); probably Cathedral Rock. It's likely to be late morning though.

Wilson Mt. Trail should be fine this time of year. Just bring plenty of water, hats, and sunscreen! I ran into some pretty deep snow near the top once, but that shouldn't be a problem in July. :)

Many thanks for the offer Nan we are now thinking that a nice easy hike on Friday afternoon after our ten hour flight is maybe what we should do. We thought we might try for Wilson Mountain on Sunday. Good luck for the Canyon, we hiked there last August staying overnight at Phantom Ranch.
