Every year I do the salome jug hike around this time. Due to the lack of rain and snow this year I don't know if there is going to be enough water in the bed to do it. I was wondering if anyone has been down there recently and if so if there was enough water there to do the jumps and slides. Any input would be a help. THANKS

I was wondering the same thing. I'd be willing to go explore it with you. There are other canyons in the area (Parker Canyon for instance) that would be worth exploring also.

Saw this today on the yahoo canyoneering group...

"FYI - did Salome on Sunday. Conditions were near perfect. Water is still
flowing strong enough to keep scum away, but slow enough to rappel the
final waterfall. If you're planning on Salome this spring/summer, I

Thanks Kurt! I was planning on buying a new pair of shoes for canyoneering this Friday, so I can start heading out. I have to order the shoes though so I have to wait at least one more weekend. Bummer!

You might consider taking a look @ Vasque Catalyst's....... Five-ten soles with a light-hiker upper. They were on sale @ STP @ $50.00 - might be still. I can vouch for the grip in wet environments.
But, with that said, it's easy canyoneering, the Jug, so I'd say the heck with new shoes, do the trip before it scums up.
After checking for depth, it's easier/quicker to just jump the fall. You might want 20-30 feet of rope for a hand line as the jump-off is off-camber.

I know. Normally I would skip the shoes, but I wore a hole through the sole of my Five-Ten Water Tennies in one season. I threw them out a few weeks ago, along with my old pair of hiking boots. So I need something to wear anyway. I'll check out the Vasques, but I have my eye on a pair of La Sportiva Exum River shoes. They're kinda pricey ($99), but I get my money's worth out of almost everything I buy...except those Five-Tens .

Usually, I bring a 30 ft length of nylon webbing for the "rappel". I might have used it once; I prefer to jump. I can't wait to get in there. Hopefully the weekend after this coming one.

I just went through the Salome Jug for the first time last saturday, May 6th. While some in the group who had done this canyon before noted the water had been higher in previous years, there was still plenty of water to enjoy and we still got wet on the rappel near the end.
