Cooler weather 2 day hike in July?

Cooler weather 2 day hike in July?

Postby Bloodworks3 » May 21 2012 10:50 pm

Buddy of mine is flying in from Washington State to do a 2-3 day back pack (nothing fancy just some sight seeing and us catching up). Was hoping to escape the heat if possible or as much as possible. We will be heading out from Phoenix and I could use some suggestions of where we might go. Water source of some sort would be nice. We will only have 1 car.

Oh and in June I was thinking I might do a solo trip of 4-6 days with the same sort of criteria if anyone has any suggestions. Nothing to extreme as I am not as young as I once was. So I can get up Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon trail head but it takes me 45 minutes to reach the summit. Would appreciate some suggestions.

HI Bloodworks, my boyfriend and I are actually doing an event to hike Humphrey's July 30th and i was just given the opportunity to snag july 29th off work also so might turn it into a double summit bagging trip if interested!

As for nice hikes, Cabin Loop is nice and there is some water, check the trip description for more info. I always suggest going north during the summer for the not-so-crazies, but for myself and my man...if we had 4-6 to explore and hike...we would most likely end up deep in the heart of the Superstition Wilderness, not for the faint of heart, too hot for normal folk.

Good luck picking a hike or two! There are some nice backpacking adventures to be had along the Arizona Trail as well Imight add! :D

Lots of trails above the Mogollon Rim that are level and through the pines. Over by the Two Sixty TH going to Woods Canyon and Willow Lakes (or farther north) might fit the bill for you.

2-3 days? Check out the Cabin Loop trails above the Mogollon. Cool weather and water sources!
