Critters and Food in Supes

Postby apvnm » Mar 21 2009 5:12 pm

New to hiking the supes, do people bear bag food here or is there an alternate technique. We've got a weeks worth of food with us.

I hang my food with a line in a tree. There are bears in the Eastern Superstitions and numerous critters who love a free meal throughout. A friend once told me of a ringtail that chewed a hole in his pack to get a midnight snack.

I use an Ursack. It's much easier than hanging a bear bag. It's never been messed with, either.

I put everything in OP (odor proof) Sacks, and will hang it if I can.

I've had stuff chewed by mice, including my bite valve, but I haven't lost a whole meal yet.
