Desert Hills/New River Area

Hi Everyone, You guys have been great with the info, so I'm going to pick your brains again. I am staying in Desert Hills this weekend and I know that there are some trails along Carefree Highway between the big hill to the west and 16th St. I know these are probably more like "walks" than hikes, but does anyone have any info on them. The area on the south side of C.F. Hwy, I can't even figure out if that's a Preserve or what it is, I don't think it's private, I see trails and people parking on C.F. Hwy all the time and walking up there. Anyone?
