Usery Park, Pass Mountain

Postby Desertboots » Nov 18 2002 2:04 pm

I hiked out the Pass Mountain trail yesterday. I was actually on a Geocache hunt. Going in from the Horse Staging Area and hiking counter-clockwise, you took a spur trail off to the right and descended a rather respectable wash. The trail picked up on the other side and led to the area where the geocache was near a Saguaro with a fan arm. I'll post photos later on the trail description.

Anyway, after finding the cactus, I headed back to the main Pass Mountain Trail and made the loop. I was wondering who, if anyone, has taken this spur trail and went wherever it takes you. Where does it take you? It looked like an old jeep trail and it led up into the mountains. I'm always curious about these thing but was with a friend and never know if they're reluctant to explore.

How far from the horse staging area is the spur trail you're talking about?

Spur Trail

Not too far, about a mile, if that. I know there are trails that go back to the houses, but this ne head up into the hills. I'm sure it's an old jeep trail, but hikers use it.

Desertboots - if it's the one I'm thinking of, it continues east for about a mile then just kinda fades away, it does head toward the houses to the east, so it could be an "unofficial" access route...there are several such trails on the east side of Pass Mountain...on heading up the range just east of the large wash you mentioned, another still further east...

Pass Mountain

I entered my report on my Pass Mountain hike today and can see that my computer does not know how to spell "headquarters". I soundly disciplined my computer and turned my back on it hoping to hurt its feelings.
