Hiking Underwear

Postby Pythor Sen » Jul 14 2005 7:11 pm

Seriously. I've had a few chafing episodes, especially when I get a little sweaty. Does anyone have any recommendations for good drawers for warmer hikes? boxers? briefs? boxer-briefs? something else? My brother said he wears spandex biker shorts under his pants. Haven't tried that, but I may just give it a shot. Any other ideas?

In response to Pythor Sen's reply:
You can find my solution by eliminating everything on your list
 . There are many adherents to this style, but it isn't for everyone. The next most effective for me has been wicking boxers from REI. Bike shorts trap too much heat for me, but you might like them.

From a woman's perspective and what I found works for me is a pair of Hanes bike shorts (I think they're 90% cotton, 10% spandex). They have them in both mens and womens sizes and are really comfy....no chafing and no riding up. Believe me, I've tried everything and found this works well for a reasonable price.

Been using Body Sensors (100 % polyester) for cycling and hiking. They are available at Target. Use to use Fruit of the loom and powder but woke up with a Coati-Mundi sniffing around while camping at Roosevelt Lake.

Under Armour Compression shorts. Use for both football and hiking, and I've gone days without washin 'em (both hiking and during football :o :o )

I like the compression shorts- light and breathable.
But try changing your shorts every day or two... or at least keep down wind from me.

I know you're probably part of a product testing team but the smell of that is so strong it passes through the internet...

Anyway, I had the same problem and am thinking of getting those UA compression shorts. Note to self, wash them more frequently. :sl:

Free and easy Lis', nothing like an unfurnished basement for optimal comfort.
I think Monsoon season will begin around June 20, plus or minus 5 days, not by the calendar according to the NWS, but when dew points rise dramatically, and it begins to rain over the Sacramento Mountains. It will start about 10 days later in Arizona.

Somehow, the phrase "compression shorts" does not instill attractive feelings on the part of the opposite sex...

REI wicking boxer-briefs and haven't had any chafing since using them.

baby powder and light weight, longer legged boxers... necessary when I used to be trained up (thighs 27" each)... nylon compression shorts for shorter, faster outings (under six hours)...

I'll 2nd this motion (save for the washing part, haha.) They're a little pricey but can be had for reasonable prices online, and definitely seem to solve the 'problem' for me.
