Garmin vista hcx question

Garmin vista hcx question

Postby javalina » Nov 27 2009 10:43 am

I got a vista hcx a week ago, downloaded updated software from garmin, no problem. But when i go to load a map on it my computer doesn't see it as a removable storage device. the computer beeps when the usb is attached but nothing shows up in my computer. if i click on mass storage device on my garmin it will show and say " insert disc in drive e:" i think this is because i don't have an sd card in it yet.
should'nt i just see it when i hook up the usb cable, like a flash drive or something ??
In the system directory i do see the garmin usb hooked up.
i have reloaded the drivers.
i am using windows xp.
any ideas??

thanks.

I "think" you need a card in it to see it on what ever Windows file browser program is called. It's not really a "storage device" unless it has the card in it.

Somebody else might know better, I'm a linux guy. I do have Vista for testing stuff but it's all automatic whenever I plug anything in.

Click the left button (not the zooms) on the side twice, that will kick you into the system options screens (there are other ways to get there, but that is the easiest). From there select Setup, then interface, you will see that usb is your only option. Click it to select it and voila!

left click twice - gets you to main menu
select "Setup"
select "System"
left click in the system menu and select "Card info" from the drop down list.
