SPOT recall

SPOT recall

Postby maxpower » Apr 04 2011 3:19 pm

I had just received my new DeLorme PN-60W with the SPOT system, and when I tried to register it with SPOT, I found there is a recall on a certain serial number batch. So they will be replacing the unit, and as a bonus, will be offering an additional 6 months of free service once I finally activate the new unit. If anyone else is using the SPOT system, you may want to check the ESN number inside the unit (beneath the batteries). Here is a link to the recall page and I believe it includes the ESN serial number range of the units that are affected:

I remember someone telling me about this...and they sent in a brand new unit and got back a re-furbished one.

They know the drill, my SPOT Messenger was recalled immediately after I got it. All is fine now tho and it doesn't lessen my enthusiasm for these devices.

My SPOT messenger didn't send any of the check in messages I sent out this past trip. Kind of a big deal since we actually needed to use it for something other than "ok".

Nope. The track worked fine, but no messages went out. They don't show up in my message list either, despite the device giving me all good lights. I am calling them tomorrow to see what is up.

Haven't had time yet to call. Hopefully they're open this afternoon.

I got my email that said they were mailing out the return authorization package and it should be here in the next couple of days. Turn around is supposed to be about a week or so after they receive the UPS shipment from me. Meanwhile I can continue to use the PN-60 itself. I really like the features of this, especially the quick satellite capture. It blows Garmin away in that regard. My initial satellite fix only took less than 5 seconds, the first time I took it outdoors! The mapping software and downloading is a bit different and takes some adjustment, but like anything, it takes a bit of patience to figure out all of the features.
