Camelback Fatality - Mar 24

Postby John9L » Mar 24 2011 6:02 pm

I made my way over to Invergorden this afternoon looking forward to a hike up Cholla. Before I even get to the trailhead, folks started telling me to turn around, "Trail Closed". I continued on a little bit and ran into some friends of mine that told me someone had a massive heartache and are possible dead. We solemnly headed back to the car. I'm back home and see this...

From AzCentral.com
Man, 63, dies while hiking Camelback Mountain

A 63-year-old man died after apparently suffering cardiac arrest while hiking Camelback Mountain in Phoenix on Thursday afternoon. The man was hiking with his wife when he suddenly collapsed, said Capt. Tony Mure, spokesman for the Phoenix Fire Department. A nurse practitioner who was also hiking the trail began to perform CPR on the man immediately, Mure said. Rescue crews reached the man on the mountain and continued to give CPR. The man was in cardiac arrest, Mure said, and was later pronounced dead.

How sad for his family. But, don't we all want to go out quickly?

I feel for his family. I lost my father (61 years young/heart attack) last week.

@kevinweitzel75

Keep strong, Kevin. Cherish your memories. My dad passed at age 54--it's a sad road you're on.

@kevinweitzel75:
Be Good dude. It's always too young. We lost my father when he was 58, and I think about him every time I hike.

Thank you to everyone. I have learned that life is short and we have to live everyday like it's our last. We have to say the things that need or should be said no matter the outcome. My dad died doing what he loved to do, and I'm sure the man that passed on Camelback did the same, and even GPS Joe. I think that is the way all of us would want go. They are all on to a better place of endless trails, tireless legs and overwelming beauty.
