Another missing hiker in the Supes - Kenny Clark

Postby chulavista » Jul 02 2012 8:32 am

Saw this article on AZcentral.com, and have not seen anything else. Does anyone know about this? This article says a hiker was reported missing after he didn't come home from a Sunday morning hike in the Supes. His car was found parked at the First Water trailhead.

Hope this turns out OK... :scared:

Saw it on the news a bit ago. Apparently familiar with the area and has hiked in there before. Went solo and did not tell anybody where he was going. Hope he just decided to stay out a little longer.

Just heard on the news that First Water TH will be closed tomorrow July 4th for the continued search efforts. They are asking folks to avoid the area.

Found in Garden Valley. Appears to have died on Sunday during his hike. An autopsy will be performed to determine exact cause of death.

A sad ending. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Gilbert hiker found dead in Superstition Mountains

Postby paulshikleejr » Jul 06 2012 2:35 pm

Very sad ...

A Gilbert man, missing since Sunday, was found by a search-and-rescue team and canine unit at about 2 a.m. Friday underneath brush in the Garden Valley area at least a mile and a half from the First Water Trail head, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said. Officials said the area was not heavily wooded, but had a lot of brush and vegetation.

Investigators said they believe Clark has been dead since Sunday, which means it's possible he might not have died of dehydration.
Yes, being that close to the TH in nearly flat terrain suggests the the possibility some other health emergency, although the heat could have precipitated it. I wonder how far off the trail he was. People seem to take a lot of different routes through Garden Valley, and if he were going cross-country I can understand why he was hard to find.
