Wet Beaver Shuttle

Postby azpride » Mar 18 2009 10:59 am

I'm thinking about doing a Wet Beaver trip with a few friends some time in the next month or two. Because I'd like to get maximum enjoyment time in the canyon, I'd prefer to do a shuttle and allow 3 days/2 nights just for the creek.

Does anyone know the road conditions to Waldroup Place at the upper end? I've got a stock Tacoma (no 4x4 but I've been able to get over some rough roads with fancy driving) and my only friend who's going so far has a Corrolla. If my truck can make it but not his car, maybe we can get his car within a mile or two when we pick up my truck and just hike the rest of the way to it? I'm hoping if the road gets pretty rough it's not until the end section of the road so we can accomplish this.

Thanks for any info!

doing a hike from w. beaver up apache maid and camp at mouth of canyon is completely doable. and one night "in" canyon is plenty. its only 7 miles of water. im coming with you.

Yeah I know it's doable, but more time to screw around in the creek is preferred. One night gives me less opportunity to take photos at the "Golden hours", which is kinda one of the main things I'm in for. Two sunsets and two sunrises in the canyon is ideal.

We'll see how much company I get through my friend. If there's still room, I'll post ;)

im curiously awaiting your photoset for this canyon. being that it runs N-S it would be interesting to see how sunrise-sunset affects the shadows. plenty of soft light to be had in there im sure. one of the places where there are very few tent spots too. let me know if you need to borrow a hammock :D

Hmm. Good luck with the camping there. There is one tiny camping spot on creek left, about a 1/2 mile or so downstream from Waldroup Canyon. After that... well... I didn't see anything but thick brush, debris and rocks. It's a neat canyon though.

That's it? Hmm... We'll work something out. Anybody know anything about the road though?
