Best Mexican Food Restaurant in Superior/Miami/Globe?

Jim Lyding wrote:We went to Libby's El Rey today after hiking Parker Creek. My green chile chimichanga prepared (red) enchilada style was outstanding. The beans were below-average, and the rice was well-below-average. The service was very good, but the place was mostly empty. I'd rate this place below Chalo's, but above Guayo's El Rey. I would recommend Libby's El Rey, but stay away from the beans and the rice. Another negative is that they charge for extra baskets of chips (which they coat w/ butter...seriously), but that's not a bad thing. The hot salsa was pretty hot and good, but the mild salsa was very good IMO.

T-hank-S for the first critique on this one!
( I never mentioned it, but I had a bad experience at the highly rated Globe-Chalo's on my first and will be last visit.. after gpsjoe and my Sierra Ancha hike on Sat-5/15. Next time I want to spend my hard earned social security $$ on Mexican in the Globe area, I will give Libby's El Rey a go) ;)

So Hank are you going to elaborate on your culinary non-experience? :( Or is this classified under "If you don't have something nice to say, just say nothing..." :D

@Jim Lyding
I saved those olives for you! How rude not to accept. They were actually pretty tasty, as far as olives go. Definitely better than the rice, at least.

Yes, kind-of this reason why I did not elaborate. I'm sure my future patronage won't be missed based on the volume of people I saw at 5:30pm on a Saturday. Service was lousy (as previously documented on HAZ, so I knew this going in), but to deal with lousy service plus a server having a lousy attitude take my order for their Saturday only special- "the sizzling beef fajita platter", then return back to my table at 5:45pm and inform me that they had sold out of beef steak to make the fajitas with no reasons why and with only "what else would I like to order", was just more than I could ever deal with for a return visit. :(

My wife and I truly believe that the Anchas would largely be unexplored if not for the Mexican food in that area.
Btw..El Ranchito on the north end of Broad street isn't bad, nothing fancy, just good basic food.

Last time I ate at Taco Bell here in Page (this week) it was over $7! Can inflation really be that much in two years?!?!

That could be! Usual meal there is a burrito, quesadilla, nachos and a drink. Still, it wasn't that long ago when I could get that for $5.

This thread is a humorous oxymoron.
I think Monsoon season will begin around June 20, plus or minus 5 days, not by the calendar according to the NWS, but when dew points rise dramatically, and it begins to rain over the Sacramento Mountains. It will start about 10 days later in Arizona.

Anyone who eats @ Taco Bell in Globe had better be pressed for time because if they're not then there is mucho bad karma coming their way. I'm sorry Hank didn't have a good experience at Chalo's, but this Mexican food snob was quite impressed. A good-sized plate of food there would cost no more than $10 including tip (w/out drink).

Well, Globe is always just a gas stop for me on the way to Tucson. I am always trying to make time, see if I can get to N. Tucson in less than 4.5 hours from Eagar. I rarely eat in restaurants while on the road, I usually bring sandwiches or get Taco Hell (or Toxic Smell) which is what all the employees call it. How do I know that? I worked for the one on Wetmore in Tucson for a summer, years ago! And if you are looking at your map, the answer is, yes, the Globe/Hwy 77 is by far the quickest way from Eagar to Tucson.

Truly.
Does Taco Bell actually fall under the category of Mexican food?
Granted it does bear a striking similarity.

So I was actually in Globe on Friday (in my quest to traverse the entire N-S axis of the state without driving on an interstate, apparently), but I have no useful contributions to this thread still since it was early AM and all the above mentioned places were closed. Even Taco Bell.

Went through Globe this weekend. Note 1: Chalo's is closed until August 9 for vacation.

Note 2: You have to have arteries of steel in order to eat at Libby's El Rey. The service was good, but the food... not so much.
There are just two switchbacks left. And another half-mile to the destination...
