So Az Fall Color Report--Ash Creek/So Fork Cave Creek

Postby RedRoxx44 » Nov 03 2010 4:37 pm

Just got home from a day in each drainage. Maples are turning but most are still green. Some individuals are fire engine red though. Overall pretty nice, but I think I will wait until weekend after this one before returning. Nice hiking during the week. No one on the trail in So Fork and a small group in Ash Creek.
A word for the folks going up this weekend. Road is in good shape, meadow is full of hunters and looks like a used RV parking lot. Some water in Ash Creek in spots. Aspens and maples are not quite there yet, unfortunately was quite windy up there today. Some tree fall on the trail. Where choices are available bear right on the trail. Left leads to hunter stand areas. If you are off trail in the drainage don't worry, you'll intersect the trail if you stay in the watercourse.

Won't put any pics for a while as also just got back from 8 days in the Grand Canyon Parashant area.

Thanks for the report. They're being shy this year :(
But as for me and my house, we will poop in the woods. Deut 23:12-13

Just got back from spending the day at Bassett Peak. Colours at Ash Creek Spring are A+++ with the aspen at their peak. The lower drainage has yet to hit it's peak. As Joe says, season seems to be about ten days off... :?

I am 90% set on a revisit for the South Fork Sat and Bassett on Sun. If you see a bundled up redhead in a little tan Jeep say hello.
