Good time to snakeproof your pooch.

Good time to snakeproof your pooch.

Postby Alston Neal » Mar 30 2011 11:47 am

This Sunday at Sportsman's Warehouse Web Parton will do a rattler clinic for dogs.
It's $75 and I've heard good things about this guy.
Here is a link so you can check for more times here and across the state.

Remember, your foot could be here like mine was and my pooch may have been so kind as to give me a heads up.

I don't have to snakeproof my dogs. They both got put to sleep. However, my cat could use some sort of vaccine. Preferably something to make her quit being so annoying.

Here's a couple of pics from yesterday. It was money well spent, my wife and I and most importantly our dog Tus got alot out of it.
Web is a great person and spent a good deal of time with each dog. The size of the clinic was limited to five and took alittle more than four hours.
My wife and I also greatly lessened our fear of rattlers, but not respect. We were both within two feet of the snakes.
Tus getting a good up close look and smell. She was already smart enough not to come around Web or us.

I forgot to mention, there is a clinic very soon you might want to check out. It is for dog-proofing your snake. Many dogs will attack snakes and injure them...

Yes, which probably explains my lack of fear with them. Btw, many at the clinic thought it would be a good idea if Web put a shock collar on me.

Liz, dog proof your snake........ :sl:
How about we spicy proof your cat?..... :D

Easter Sunday we went hiking on the mesa by Richinbar Mine. As some of you know there is a corral there and a bunkhouse. Well I make use of this area to dispense of the morning coffee. I had Tus on a leash cuz of the cattle there, afterall she is a cattle dog, I handed the leash to my wife and stepped behind the bunkhouse.
Well lookie there a rattler..........lookie there....two! I took the leash and pointed Tus toward them and................nothing.
Wtf! No growling, barking or Timmy Timmy don't go near the well like Lassie would. I was disappointed and said so to Deb.
She smiled and said ...well she didn't want go back there or anywhere near them, sooooooo she showed proper advoidance.
Afterall, Tus can't help the fact that you're dumb enough to pee on two rattlesnakes.

Alston, I bet Web (snake avoidance trainer) would say the wind was blowing away from the dog. The wind direction is a big factor. Had my guy trained two weeks ago. I should say retrained from 1.5 years ago and it's a good thing as at first he went right up to the snake and had his nose about 2 feet away. Would really like to see him react on the trail but with weather heating up he wouldn't be out with me very much longer.

It was really windy and she was about 12 feet away. Also if they were coming out from under the bunkhouse, which is also heavy with rodent poo, she probably was overwhelmed with scent. Still as my wife said, she just didn't want to go back there.
