The Foundation for Blind Children

Postby BobP » May 02 2011 8:52 am

I met Mike Armstrong over the weekend and was truly inspired by him. http://blindmotivation.com/adventures-2 ... armstrong/

I have decided to help the fund raising efforts. I want to help raise funds to dedicate AZT passage #23 http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=2437 to the memory of GpsJoe. Mike is trying to raise $43,000 for the Foundation for Blind Children. A thousand dollars for each passage hiked. I know times are tough but if you can find it in your heart to make a tax deductable donation no matter the amount it would be great. I will make up any difference in amount up to the $1,000. If you do make a donation please pm me so I can track progress.

Just a quick update on the above post....I've been in contact with Mike Armstrong over the last few days. He thought our idea was awesome. I also found out that donations to The Foundation for Blind Children qualify for an AZ tax credit. So any amount donated, is credited against your AZ tax ....dollar for dollar.... up to $200 for single and $400 filing a joint return. You must itemize your deductions to take advantage of this credit.

any update on his injury? and that's great news about the deductibility too.
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

I heard a reporter spent a day or so with the team, do you know who that was?

His name was Ron Duggan(sp) works for AZ Republic. He did the 1st segement with them and wrote an article. A few of us met Ron at the Peeley TH while searching for GpsJoe...he's a cool guy. He also summitted Peeley.... this was when Mike had to seek medical attention for a fall he took.

Did he show any interest in what all has gone on around GPSJoe's disappearance? Seems that is a quite an Arizona story. Hiking, hiking safety, the search, the mystery, the actions of the people frequenting this website, the map with all the GPS routes, etc. etc. etc.

Update on the amount donated...we are getting close to the half way mark $435 and growing :y: thanks to the generous members of HAZ.

@Sredfield
He was focused on Mike and his injury....I spoke with him about Joe...and I think others did as well.

Had an awesome day leading Mike thru rain,sleet,hail and then snow. About 2-3 inches in places along passage 33. We took the re-supply route so about 24 miles and we rocked it in 9 1/2 hours. including miles on passage 31. Photographer snapped some pics in the morning...I'll bring my camera 2morrow for our snow hike/camp. :y: Brewery in Flagstaff for beers and burger :y: It would have been awesome to have vid of ringing the bell in the snow but we didn't have the vid camera today.
