Phoenix Magazine (July 2011)

Postby kingsnake » Jun 22 2011 7:11 am

The current issue of Phoenix Magazine has a "21 cool summer hikes" (or something like that) cover article in this month's issue. Saw it in the doctor's office yesterday, and took some notes. Have not yet picked up my own copy. trying to match up their trails with trails here on HAZ, and not sure what the HAZ title for these might be:

1) Ice Cave Trail
2) Spring Trail 633
3) Hunter Creek Circuit
4) Moenkopi (I know I've seen this here, but not sure where ...)
Is there anything out there, or is it just more of the same?

Wow, thanx Joe! :worthy:

Phoenix Magazine has Hunter Creek near / as a part of Gordon Creek Falls. (Which I know Gordon is already on HAZ ...)

There's also a community called Moenkopi just south of Tuba City. I remember my grandfather used to mention it (he did a lot of exploring on the Navajo and Hopi reservations), but I don't recall any details.
That's pretty good chicken - Tastes like Rattlesnake.

Moenkopi Wash near Tuba City is a popular photography destination (increasing in popularity in the past year or so), but certainly not a summer hiking destination. Too HOT!

It's a combo of two hikes off Colcord Road for a day trip. Hunter Creek was my first attempt at hiking. Truly sad. The directions are to turn right on Colcord, drive ".3 miles and park on an unmarked dirt road on the right where there’s a barbed wire gate visible roughly 40 yard farther up the road." I couldn't find that pumpkin gate for the life of me.

Springs Trail #633 looks lovely.

Was just checking out the Wolf Creek map and the the thought occurs that on the map page, there does not seem to be a link back to the description page. For instance, on http://hikearizona.com/map.php?ZTN=15340&Z=12&M=3 the title "Wolf Creek Falls - Trail #384" does not link back to http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=15340 . Am I missing something? If not, does that seem like a reasonable / easy mod to make? :)

It links back in two places. Before I tell you I'm curious where you are expecting it to happen?

EDIT: I think I figured out where you are expecting it to link, there is a third link now :D

I did not think there was one at all, because it was not obvious. But yesterday I figured maybe there was a link, so started mousing over different controls, and clicking on a few, and did not find anything. Figured the title might be it, but it wasn't. (Past tense, thanx for adding it. :) ) Where are the links back to the description that I was missing?

1. A box comes up when you click on the green balloon. The name of the trail that appears in that box is a link to the trail description.
2. Clicking the green balloon also populates a box to the left with basic trail info. The name of the tail in that box is the other link to the trail description.

I'm not seeing that on other map pages, such as http://hikearizona.com/map.php?GPS=996 . In fact, the title on that page is not clickable either. Or am I missing something? Assuming I navigated to the map from a description page, I could always back arrow to get to the description, but if I got to the map from the GPS Routes page, I see no ready way to get from the map to the description. (Assuming the description exists.) :)

On that map, there is a balloon with a black triangle at the south end of the trail. Clicking on that balloon pops open a box with a trailname that is a link to the description. Here's a screen shot.

I just added a title link for the gps instances. Here is a marked up version (green highlight boxes around the links) of Alex's photo download/file.php?id=2255&mode=view&v=2 to clarify

apparently this is too difficult to figure out :?

The Pinetop-Lakeside Trails website has a pretty good archive of maps for their trails, I think the HAZ site is missing some of them: http://tracks-pinetop-lakeside.org/trail1.htm

Joe does a great job of packing in quick access to related information. I tend to mouse over everything to see what treasure might be buried on a page.
