I had to look that one up. Pyrric victory, that is.

I did the "active log" approach again, but now I have a 40 mile line headed from home to the start of the hike. Last time I was able to edit this by hovering the cursor over the track, but now I'm not getting that option. Anyone know how to do it?

@Patrick L
Are you using Route Manager to handle the track editing or another application? I can offer some help if you use Mapsource or Basecamp...

I downloaded the route from the site for a hike tomorrow. It shows up on my GPS just fine, but there's a huge line going from where I am now to the beginning of the track because it's titled "Active log," and is apparently still active. I was just wondering if there was a way to get rid of the annoying line. I've done it before, but I don't remember how.

I have had the same issue, and as I recall, I eliminated it by editing out the first or last data point, the one with missing information. The line is usually between where you turned on the unit to the first point in the active log. You have to eliminate the data point where you last turned it on, usually my kitchen table. Hope that is correct.

I believe you are on the right track (no pun intended).
First, ACTIVE LOG is simply the default name of a track created by the unit while it's on. (ACTIVE LOG 001 will be the next default, followed by ACTIVE LOG 002, etc.)

From personal experience uploading a track to Route Manager I ended up with the same line across it which was due to a waypoint at the other end of the hike from the end point of the uploaded track. Once I figured that out I make sure I don't upload any track with an extraneous waypoint.

So as you mentioned, whether removing the first or last point of the track or a random waypoint that does the trick, that's probably all it will take.

I experienced that as well. When you start your hike make sure you use "Clear current track" on the GPS, otherwise if you turned it on at home it will use that as the first waypoint and draw a straight line to where you turned it on out in the field.
