Friday 1/6/12

Postby BobP » Jan 12 2012 11:28 am

I went for a run at Bell Pass trying to set a personal best. I was a couple minutes off but I still felt good about it. Later in the day, I went for a hike with my daughter and my dog Bruno. What a great start to the day...that night we had dinner plans and had a great dinner until we got "the call". My son was hit by a car and the great day and evening changed in a second. He is lucky to still be with us and his road to recovery will be long....I will soon begin to count my miles again while I will be counting my sons' steps when he is able to walk again. I look forward to the day that I will be counting his miles. His spirits are high and he has talked about wanting to climb down Mooney Falls again in the future.

I am glad to here that his spirits are high and looking to the future already. The trip to Mooney sounds like an awesome goal that I share too.

Sucks. It's a war zone here in Phoenix, no lie. You really can't appreciate how bad it is here, because you are in it every day, until you go somewhere more calm and rational like pretty much any state between here and Illinois. (And even Chicago is not nearly as bad.) It's even worse if you are a pedestrian or bicyclist. I'm not joking when I say I can count the number of attempted homicides and suicides every time I commute (and I only commute five miles). I'm not joking when I say it gives me PTSD ... :scared:
Is there anything out there, or is it just more of the same?

I commute from East Mesa to Thomas and Central every day (25 miles one way) - I'm honestly surprised there aren't more wrecks and road rage incidents. People are idiots behind the wheel.

I wish your son a speedy recovery!

Such an unfortunate ending to a day that started out so great. I wish your son only the best and a full recovery so he can make that Mooney Falls climb.

I am very sorry to hear about your son. Thanks to the higher powers that he will be ok. Being a father to a son myself, its a worst nightmare to hear news of that sort. I send by best wishes to you and your family.

So sorry to hear. I had worded what I wanted to say perfectly in the car and now I can' find the words I had carefully selected. I hope your son recovers quickly and wish you and your family well during this difficult time. We look forward to hearing about you and your son being out on the trail again.
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

RJ is now in a Rehab facility and doing better everyday. I joined him for his physical therapy yesterday and he was working hard.... while I was encouraging/bugging and making the trainer lose count. Hopefully he'll be home in a few weeks.
