Tachycineta bicolor

Common Names: Swallow
Habitat:Lakeshores, flooded areas, marshes and streams. Nests near water in cavities made in trees. They will try to take over Woodpecker holes if they can. Found in the summer throughout much of the U.S. and Canada stretching south to the northern parts of the Southwest. They winter in Mexico. One small section of Central Coastal California has them as residents all year.
Description: Approximately the size of a Sparrow, they have metallic blue or blue/green above and pure white below. Juveniles and females are brown above.
