Lycaena [Epidemia] helloides

Habitat:Found from Canada to Mexico, from the Pacific Coast, east to roughly the Mississippi River. Resides from Sea Level up to 10,000 feet in elevation in just about any moist environment.

Description:Above, Male is Copper/Brown Colored with Blue/Purple Wash. Scattered Black Spots. HW has prominent Orange submarginal Crescents and both Wing Margins are narrowly darkened. Female is Tawny Orange with heavier dark spots, Brown shading and Brown Margins. Orange Crescents on HW are more prominent. Below, both sexes have ocherous FW with Black spots. HW Pinkish/Tan to Grayish/Tan with Black spots and Scalloped Red Submarginal Band.

Caterpillar is Grass Green with longitudinal back and side stripes of Yellow. Chrysalis is a stubby Greenish/Gray marked with Gray and Brown.

Comments:This species of Butterfly persists into Late Fall.
