Sceloporus graciosus gracilis

Habitat:This subspecies of the Common Sagebrush Lizard resides in Northern California and into Southern Oregon. Lives in Shrub type communities such as Manzanita and Sagebrush. Also resides in Open Pine and Douglas Fir areas in higher Mountain elevations. Also lives in River bottoms in Coastal Redwood areas. Prefers open areas with lots of Sun and low bushes.

Description:A small Lizard with small, keeled scales. Scales on the back of the thigh are more granular than keeled however. Unlike the similar Western Fence Lizard, with whom the Western Sagebrush Lizard may share habitat, the Western Sagebrush Lizard will not have Yellow coloring on the rear of the back limbs. There is usually a Black Bar marking each front shoulder. Males will have Blue Belly patches, where females will not. Coloring is Gray or Brown with irregular dark blotches or bands on the Body and Tail. Stripes along the sides will be indistinct, unlike other species. Instead the Stripes will be a series of Blotches that may form an incomplete line.

Comments:Excellent climber and jumper, but prefers being on the ground, basking on rocks and logs.
