Chrysemys picta

Habitat:Southern Canada through the Northern and Eastern U.S. Introduced in areas of the Southwest, including many larger urban areas of Arizona. Prefer shallow, permanent, slow moving Waters, including Lakes, Ponds and Canals, as well as large, slow moving Rivers.

Description:Similar to the Red-Eared Pond Slider, but lacks the Red Patch on Head. Numerous Cream/Yellow colored stripes on Head and Limbs. The bottom of Shell has a large, centered, single blotch on a Red or Yellow background. Dark horizontal line through eye. Low, smooth dark Shell bordered on the bottom edge by Yellow or Red lines.

Comments:Omnivorous and frequently seen basking in the sun, alone or in groups.
