Agkistrodon contortrix

Copperheads are brown, tan, or copper colored and are venomous and will eat mammals, frogs, and birds. They prefer to hang out around water, but can be found in drier areas. They den in large numbers and are docile and difficult to see because they blend in so well to the leave litter. They prefer forested areas and fields and will take cover under rocks. They are a slow moving snake and have several subspecies.
