It was just fantastic conditions today. The snow is deep and there is a layer of powder on the surface. It took a little longer to summit than I thought it would, so I had to skip my planned trip over to Agassiz, but I had a great Humphrey summit anyway. Oddly, the wind was calm on the summit, but a little fierce on the north side of the west ridge. I went up that way, which was a mistake, but I came down the snow slope that has formed on the south side of the ridge. If doing this, I recommend using the snow slope on the south side. For some reason the winds are not maintaining the cornice on the north side well, but the snow slope was crusty and firm, not to mention deep. Booting down went really fast and a trip though the trees directly back to Snowbowl got me down in 100 minutes.

I know my pics of Humphrey are nothing new, though I like them. Still, check out # 15 from today, it has a skier triggered avalanche/ slide in it. I wonder when it happened?

Spring winds are still annoying, but if they aren't filled with dirt or cold, they aren't that bad.
