Beautiful day in Red Rock country. We originally planned on doing Woodchute, but the snow level looked pretty low in the Bradshaws so we audibled to Wilson Mountain. Trail up to First Bench from Midgley Bridge TH is awesome with great views, and enough of a grade to get you sweating without being a lung-burner.
The trail is basically a rivulet up close to First Bench, and a muddy & snowy disaster on top of First Bench. We followed a group of 3 up from First Bench about 1/2 mile from the junction (w/ North Wilson Mountain trail). They were wearing proper footwear, and I wasn't. We went about 200 yards past their turnaround point, and got tired of post-holing in the 3-foot-deep snow. It was also getting later in the day, and the storm looked to be on the way.
Also did part of the Wilson Canyon trail.
The best part of today, however, is the fact that I forgot my all-leather waterproofed boots at home. I even had my old boots in the car, but I took them out just before leaving the house. Luckily I was wearing some junky low-cuts, but unfortunately my feet got soaked because those well-ventilated low-cuts allowed water to go right in. I did remember my gaiters, however :sl: Walking through 3-foot-deep snow and deep mud in low-cuts is not an experience I ever want to repeat.
