Took this route with a friend, at first intending to go all the way to Malapais. However we got going a little late and stopped too often to take pictures, so Geronimo Head it was. The weather was perfect in the 70's and the heat from the sun was never uncomfortable.

We started off with a pretty good pace, thorny terrain notwithstanding. When we reached Saddle 2750 we were feeling pretty good about ourselves. That wasn't to last, as the brush slowly grew in size until we were almost literally swimming through it. Following the rocks up the other side proved to be the best route, although hard to see coming from that direction. We followed the creek for a little bit and then went up the ridge to the west for the 'scenic' portion of the Malapais GPS route. This is where we spent a good chunk of our time taking pictures. The views from atop any of these ridges are amazing though. Followed the ridge to Geronimo Head and stopped for lunch, where I found a wood tick crawling around on the brim of my hat. After removing the tick three different times (he was crafty!) we headed back. Back at Saddle 2750 we encountered a desert tortoise, clicked some pics, and headed back down to the car. This was a fun hike, but next time I will go much earlier and possibly sans camera so that I don't get distracted. I'd really like to make it all the way to Malapais.

Havasu Canyon Trail - Sep 15 2014
I was watching the helicopter make multi-drops of people and supplies when, at one point, a stray horse wandered into the landing field (the gate was open). The guys unloading the supplies chased it around the field until it went back out the gate. Then as it was running up the main drag, another resident must have thought it got loose so he shooed it back into another open gate and back into the field. So now these guys are chasing it around the field again but this time they start pelting it with rocks. The horse was panicking and didn't know where to go. Rocks were being hurled at it from all directions. He ended up falling down after a really hard rock hit and it looked like he broke...
