A last minute request by my friend Kim for a flower and water fix led to this fine little adventure. Having seen the awesome flower photos posted from the Guthrie Peak area the week before, I really wanted to check it out pronto, while the show was still on. I had only been over to the west end of the Gila Box once, and that was many years ago in 1993. Now I wonder why it took me so long to go back! The wildflower show started in earnest right where you turn off I-10 to head to Safford. After a lunch stop at Casa Manana, we headed over on Highway 191 to the Guthrie Peak/Three Way area to continue our overdose of wildflowers, then backtracked in to camp at the BLM Riverview Campground at the lower Gila Box. Sunday we went down to the confluence of Bonita Creek and the Gila River and leisurely explored a bit before heading back to Tucson. We definitely hit the jackpot on this trip!
