I was up visiting the Valley of the Interminable Sun for Easter and planting season with mom - and I knew that I'd need a little escape in there somewhere. So I typed up a quick note to my buddy Tibber who actually likes living in this metropolitan hell hole and invited her to take me out and see the sites. She really delivered! Not only was the Cave Creek/Spur Cross area green and lush and full of wildflowers, but it felt millions of miles from Phoenix for most of the time! She did such a wonderful job of detailing our route - I won't repeat any of that. I'll only mention my favorite moments of the hike:
  • Angela's statement that it's never crowded out here followed seconds later by a full parking lot and a man on a loud speaker shouting out people's names for the 10k. Yeah. Real quiet Angela!
  • Lilo splashing, playing and laying down in the creek every chance she got. She may not have many Lab traits, but she LOVES the creeks!
  • Giant saguaros, giant cottonwoods, giant barrels and giant lupine...It's like there's something special in that water. I hope Lilo doesn't start to get bigger... :scared:
  • That yummy fish burrito eaten with a view of the duck pond at El Encanto while sipping a prickly pear margarita with a good friend, my mom and a very devoted Mr. Wendy (who heroically mom-sat for me all morning!)

Just another perfect day on the trail!

Havasu Canyon Trail - Sep 15 2014
I was watching the helicopter make multi-drops of people and supplies when, at one point, a stray horse wandered into the landing field (the gate was open). The guys unloading the supplies chased it around the field until it went back out the gate. Then as it was running up the main drag, another resident must have thought it got loose so he shooed it back into another open gate and back into the field. So now these guys are chasing it around the field again but this time they start pelting it with rocks. The horse was panicking and didn't know where to go. Rocks were being hurled at it from all directions. He ended up falling down after a really hard rock hit and it looked like he broke...
