It was a short 1/2 mile uneventful drive to the trailhead coming from the Isabella trail. A quick lunch next to the headwaters of the Hassayampa River and then we headed up. We passed a couple of mining claims on the way to the saddle between Mount Union and Mount Davis. Joe tried to take me left and show me Mount Davis, but I wasn't having any of that.... Mount Union was the deal today.
There were GREAT views for miles of the surrounding areas and the big white puffy Fraley's were all over today. There was still a bit of snow here and there on the mountains, but the trails were all completely dry. We got up to the friendly Rangers Tower and were instructed via a shout through the window, that the really good views were over by the viewing platform. It would have been a great place to set up a couple of lawn chairs and a cooler of your favorite beverages and just take it all in.
The drive back to the valley taking Walker Rd this time, was 12 miles longer, but with a shorter driving time and smooth sailing with pavement almost the whole way.
This was a great day of hikes, adventures, and yuks with the directionally challenged Joe.
