Nice genteel trip out of Woody's Corral, up the well behaved trail in endless pine parklands; water came and went courtesy of springs. As you near the head of Little Creek canyon it narrows up a little and some off trail revealed a small stream in pink sculptured rock. Little Spring flows in a grassy meadow under tall yellow pines and lots of great camp spots.
I thought about doing a loop, decided I did not have the time to do it justice, and camped here after about 13 miles. A short 6 mile loop the next morning to the highly recommended Granite Peak. It is not a tall peak but is nicely situated to give great views, something a lot of the Gila highpoints don't have. I could see down the Turkey Creek drainage, over toward Mogollon Creek, the crest and Mogollon Baldy, the cliffs of the West Fork, across the mesa top and the depression housing the Middle Fork. The summit ridge is serrated so a walk along it gave views toward the Gila Hot Springs valley. Remains of a fire lookout, lots of ladybugs, and wonderful boulders with small trees. A few small campspots, it would be a spectacular dry camp with the expansive views.
I packed up and walked a few miles back down to camp by water again, looking for photo ops in the filtered afternoon light. Wildlife spotted three bucks in velvet, three does, about 20 javalina in the road. Heard some howling, could be coyotes versus wolves.

Nice to have a pack on again. Had some new borrowed cameras to try out, not impressed with the Sony.
