We headed down to the Reef Townsite campsite on Saturday and set up camp. Took a couple short walks on the interpretive trail and to see some of the cliffs where the frogs croak. When darkness fell, we headed back up that way, checking out the city below us and hoping for some neat lightning that never came. Headed back down to the cliffs for a nighttime concert presented to us by the frogs. Then made our way back to camp for a cozy fire and chitchat.

The next morning we awoke bright and early, tore down camp, and set up for a shuttle. Randy followed me up while I parked my car at the Ramsey Vista campground. We met Cindy and Joel back at the Old Sawmill Trail and started our journey up to Carr Peak. We had a lot of clouds, but some sun and lots of humidity going up. The views at the top are nice and look out to the city below. We stopped for some pictures and snacks and then headed down to start the long journey to Crest Trail, Bear Saddle, then Pat Scott Canyon Trail where we descended into the beautiful abyss. Took that trail to Hamburg Trail and Carr Canyon Trail, where we met up with the car. Soaked from the constant rain, dirty, and tired, we came upon the car with confusion as someone had left a fresh bouquet of wildflowers there on the windshield. A secret admirer? A birthday gift for Cindy? A simple friendly "hello" from someone we had passed on the trail earlier? The world may never know. We finished off the trip in town with some well-deserved delicious Italian food before parting ways.

I had a really great time, especially for my very first time (gasp) south of Chandler.. yes, I have never been south before and it was a lot of fun exploring it with this group! As always, I very much enjoyed hiking with Randy, and it was great to meet Cindy and Joel. Thanks for the wonderful time, guys. =)

Havasu Canyon Trail - Sep 15 2014
I was watching the helicopter make multi-drops of people and supplies when, at one point, a stray horse wandered into the landing field (the gate was open). The guys unloading the supplies chased it around the field until it went back out the gate. Then as it was running up the main drag, another resident must have thought it got loose so he shooed it back into another open gate and back into the field. So now these guys are chasing it around the field again but this time they start pelting it with rocks. The horse was panicking and didn't know where to go. Rocks were being hurled at it from all directions. He ended up falling down after a really hard rock hit and it looked like he broke...
