Off trail with lots of flowers, mushrooms, rain, and some caving. Pushed the "stuck" cave and got about 800 feet of passage, no real formations, but good trends in the joint controlled cave. The snake and tortoise where seen to and from, I think the tortie possibly someone's pet, seemed not afraid of me. Asked around in Mammoth, went to a house of the "turtle" lady, left a note as to where the little one was.
