One of two hikes I did in one day in the Catalinas. It was great to be back! I had not hiked this trail before, although I had been to Lemmon Rock Lookout. It's a steep hike, and very suitable if one wants to train for Grand Canyon hiking! Gorgeous views the entire time. We did not go all the way to Lemmon Creek, but when we were almost there, a side creek provided a nice pool for a dip. All the creeks on this mountain were running big that day. So many waterfalls! So many swimming holes!

The fire really did a good job of creating great views, and the new growth is fantastic. Lots of browse now for deer, etc. Summerhaven is a bit overdone--people trying to outdo each other on how tall a house they can fit on a lot the size of the house. (What is wrong with rustic 2-room cabins, I want to know?)

After spending almost a week in Tucson, I really want to move back there. Many old friends are there, the hiking is incredible, and it's a hip and eclectic town. It has not lost the feeling it had when I lived there, except for the the horrifically and tragically overdeveloped NW side. The main parts of town are pretty much the same. While I was in town I met rock climbers, river runners, professional guides, etc. I did not have time to go to Rocks N Ropes rock gym, or REI, but went to Summit Hut for a new pair of Lowas! And took boxes of books to trade at Bookman's! And no, I did not eat at Eegees--my daughter is the one who likes that place, not me! Sure had some great eats there though!

Havasu Canyon Trail - Sep 15 2014
I was watching the helicopter make multi-drops of people and supplies when, at one point, a stray horse wandered into the landing field (the gate was open). The guys unloading the supplies chased it around the field until it went back out the gate. Then as it was running up the main drag, another resident must have thought it got loose so he shooed it back into another open gate and back into the field. So now these guys are chasing it around the field again but this time they start pelting it with rocks. The horse was panicking and didn't know where to go. Rocks were being hurled at it from all directions. He ended up falling down after a really hard rock hit and it looked like he broke...
