Drove out Box Canyon Road to get a closer look at the Florida Fire in the Santa Rita Mountains, which had begun with a lightning strike on Florida Peak on July 7th. It was becoming quite intense by this point, and eventually spread south to cover much of the range from the Crest eastward into the lower canyons. It also burned over to Wrightson and Josephine Peak. There was some burn into Madera Canyon, but much of that was from backburn operations.

The day these pictures were taken shows it burning strong between Florida Saddle and McCleary Peak.
