After being off work for 6 weeks I was not looking forward to going back to work. :( 4 days before going back I was told I'd be going to Galveston. I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. The drive to the ferry along the Bolivar Peninsula was scenic. Less humid and less mosquitos than La. I can't really complain about the apt. two blocks from the beach either. Anyway, I had no scheduled flights and was done with work by 10am. and decided go explore Galveston Island State Park. The park has the beach side and the marsh side. I wish I had a kayak with me as they have about 7 miles of what they call paddling trails which would get you closer to the wildlife. Since there was no way of getting a kayak into the little Honda, I decided to explore their walking and interpretive trails. I had the trails to myself for virtually the entire time. There are boardwalks crossing the marsh and it is an ideal place for birdwatching. Not much shade and the proximity to the shallow marsh increased the humidity. Not worth going to as a destination, but enjoyable as an excursion. Beats walking in circles on the helideck or running on a treadmill. :y:
