Rented bikes on lower State Street and rode the Coast Route along the beach into Montecito before heading uphill on San Ysidro Road. This area is Oprah and Al Gore's backyard (Among many other famous names). Lots of very nice homes...impressive properties! Took Mountain Drive back west before coming off the mountain again down to the old Santa Barbara Mission. A couple of miles back down State Street and returned the bikes.
San Ysidro and Mountain Drive do not have bike lanes, but are popular with bikes and very sparse as far as traffic goes. Other parts of the trip either have bike lanes or are actually dedicated bike paths.
It was sunny in SB and on the western side of Mountain Drive, but the marine layer had Montecito socked in, which was nice while climbing the 800+ vertical from the coast to the top of the hill. All around, a nice way to spend a couple of hours by the sea.
