A cool breeze, clear sky and wanderlust were the ingredients that made for a pleasant hike this morning through the area surrounding Willow Springs Canyon (east of SR 88 near MP 203). I wouldn't recommend this hike when the sun is hot (no shelter from the sun can be found); but early morning or before sunset are ideal times to enjoy the peaceful quiet of this desert area. For a nearby trek, easily accessible from the paved highway and yet apparently remote enough that no one ventures into the area very often, this hike provides surprisingly picturesque vistas of the Goldfields to the west, Four Peaks to the north and Superstitions to the south and east. Not terribly exciting, but for the "price" quite a Nature bargain.
