Arrived at First Water TH at 7:30am with my buddy Pete. Picked up the Second Water Trail #236, to Boulder Canyon Trail #103 and headed south to the pass at Battleship Mountain. From there, its up through the pass and down into LaBarge Canyon. The trail through the pass is very primitive, but well-cairned all the way through. I make it a habit to fix up and add to any existing cairns for the benefit of future hikers. There are pools of standing water in the Box, but no running creeks as of yet. The LaBarge Box is one of my favorite places in all of Arizona. The sheer 500-800 foot cliffs and fins are an amazing site. Once again, we had the place all to ourselves. This is a great place to visit if you are looking for solitude. Spend some time here before you turn around. Stop for lunch, take a nap, lay down and watch the clouds pass overhead, explore amongst the boulders. Most of all, just look around and enjoy this natural wonder.
